Hey there, tech enthusiasts. Welcome back. I'm your host, Greg Doig, and we're back with some tech news and some practical tips you can actually use. And folks, if you're one of the millions still running Windows 10, today's episode is absolutely critical for you. We're literally hours away from a massive security deadline that could leave your computer vulnerable. But don't panic. I've got your action plan. We're also diving into OpenAI's jaw dropping $10 billion chip gamble and Apple's M5 launch that could save or cost you hundreds on your next purchase. So grab your coffee and let's brew some tech knowledge. The Windows 10 Security Crisis act today. All right, let's start with the urgent stuff. On October 14, 2025, Microsoft officially pulls the plug on Windows 10 support. No more security updates, no more patches. And here's the scary part. 43% of Windows users are still running it. That's roughly 21 million people in the UK alone who could be sitting ducks for hackers. Now, I know what you're thinking. My computer works fine. Why fix what's not broken? But here's the reality. Without security patches every day, your Windows 10 machine stays online. Makes it more dangerous for banking, shopping, or really anything involving your personal data. So what are your options? Well, you've got about five realistic paths. First, you can upgrade to Windows 11 if your hardware supports it. Check Microsoft's compatibility tool. It's free if your machine qualifies. Second, buy extended security updates directly from Microsoft. It'll cost you, but it's temporary protection. Third, go nuclear and switch to Linux Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Ubuntu or Linux Mint are surprisingly user friendly these days. Fourth, you can bite the bullet and buy a new Windows 11 compatible PC if your pocketbook allows it. Or fifth, accept the risk and keep using Windows 10 offline. Only my recommendation, don't procrastinate on this. The longer you wait, the more vulnerable you become. And OpenAI's$10 billion chip bet is happening. And speaking of chips, Apple's expected to unveil their M5 processor lineup this week. We're talking updated iPad Pro, Vision Pro headsets, and possibly MacBook Pro models with 12% faster multi core performance and up to 36% better graphics. So here's your buy in strategy. If you're a Mac fan and if you're in the market for any of these devices, this week's announcement creates a perfect opportunity. Option 1 wait for the M5 models. If you do creative work video editing or AI tasks where that extra performance matters. Option 2 snag current M4 models at a discounted price after the M5 launch if you just need solid, everyday performance. But if you need something today and you're not doing intensive work, don't let perfect be the enemy of good current M4 devices are incredibly capable. All right, let's recap your action items. Check your Windows 10 status today. Don't wait, and consider how the AI chip wars might influence your next device purchase. And if you're eyeing that Apple gear, this week's launches could save you money. Either way you go, that's a wrap. If this helped you make a decision or avoid a security nightmare, go ahead and come back for more episodes, and we'll be back with more practical tech insights that you can actually use. Until then, keep your software updated and your data secure.
