Ready for another tech tip from wvbi? Well then, here is Greg Doig with another one for you. Hey there, it's Greg Doig, back with your tech tip today. Today, a sneaky twist in phishing targeting Facebook users and how to spot it fast. Researchers at Malwarebytes just uncovered a new phishing campaign aimed at Facebook users, this time using mailto links instead of the usual clickable URLs. That might seem like it's benign after all, it opens your email client instead of a sketchy website. But here's the rub. Scammers often pose as Facebook or meta using email addresses like prestigeacasa.uk.com which is only pretending to be legit. And what do they ask is to reply with your login info or credentials. Don't do that. Replying confirms to scammers that your address is active and put you directly in their crosshairs. So here's what you should do instead. Scrutinize that email. If the sender isn't a clear facebook.com or meta.com pause. Next, don't reply. Even a reply saying is this real? Confirms they reached you. Next, search the sender address. A quick Google search can reveal if others flagged it as a scam. And next, use tools like Malwarebytes Scam guard by pasting a suspicious email or screenshot and get real time feedback. So remember, if it asks you to email back sensitive info, that's a red flag. Take a breath, confirm the sender and protect your login like a fortress. And that's your tech tip for today.
